The Ramblers Association now have a greatly improved website which is an exceptional rescource for all walkers, hykers and young families wanting to go for walks with young children. This site lists everything from historical walks to guided walks and really audious walks.

Find A Walk Near Me by Walking Britain is a truly excellent and free resource. Just enter where you are or where you would like to walk - and print out directions. The walks are graded and you can buy a specific map of the area at the same time. These are proper OS maps and weather proofed if required.

I always think of walking as one of the few activities you can do for free - and now you can with this guide!

Walking, Hiking and Outdoor Shops

Tesco Superstore

Deveron Rd, Huntly AB54 8TS, UK – 0345 026 9499

Very good. It was the 1st time I have visited, everyone was very fiendly and helpful.

Similar to all modern Tesco stores which offer different outlets including bakery, electronics, clothing etc. Helpful staff and products usually stocked up.

Another good one. Walkingworld has huge library of guides with a good selection of walks, of varying lengths and grades, pretty well anywhere in the country. The walks come in an excellent format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

A modist annual subscription gives you unlimited access to all the walks. However you can Pay As Go by downloading indiviual walks..

Camping and Caravaning

Huntly Castle Caravan Park

Huntly AB54 4UJ, UK – 01466 794999

Quiet, very clean and lots of dog walks in the area. Only a few minutes walk from Huntly Castle along the river. It is also home to thousands of rabbits! Facilities are very nice and there's a lovely open feel to the campsite. Pitches are generous in size and well spaced. Lots of play areas for children.

Very good camp site. Large pitches, Adult only camping area, good dog walks, loads of hot water & good sized shower cubicles. Only complaints: TV & Mobile Phone reception very poor & lack of dog poo bins.

Castle Hotel

Marquis Dr, Huntly AB54 4SH, UK – 01466 792696

We stayed here there this weekend along with our two children (age 13 and 4) and my elderly mum and stayed 2 nights to attend my brother's wedding on the Saturday. On discovering there is no lift and explaining the stairs would be but too tricky my mum was immediately found a ground floor room which helped enormously. The rooms were fantastic, the staff was attentive and after our two days we felt like we had visited close family. Special mention to Eva, June and Megan who were all incredibly helpful and friendly, and went out of their way to accommodate us - and to Andrew the owner of this family run hotel, who chats to all of the diners and even took our kids to the kitchen for ice cream. We hope to visit again in the future.

What a wonderful place. We enjoyed afternoon tea. Also the place was very busy, the food looked amazing and staff was very welcoming and engaging. Definitely a place to come back to again!

Hillview/Provost St, Huntly AB54 8BB, UK – 01466 794870

We stayed here for a week and had a really good time. It's a really cozy atmosphere and the owners are really solicitous. Fast wifi and a nice flatscreen as well.

Clean warm friendly and an excellent breakfast! And not expensive!
